PATNA, APRIL 6: The Army trekking team, which launched its expedition in Kaimur hills, an offshot of Vindhyachal mountains, has discovered 25 rock shelters full of paintings.

Giving this information, Lt Colonel Umesh Prasad of 23 Infantry Division and leader of the team, which launched its expedition in January-February this year, told reporters today that the shelters were mostly located in thick jungles away from habitation.

He said some of the rock shelters measured 50 metre in length and 8 to 10 metres in height.

Prasad said the trekking team consisting of two officers and 48 other ranks of the 23 Infantry Division trekked the entire area of Kaimur hills from Rohtasgarh to Vindhyachal, a distance of 800 kms.

Paintings of animals like deer, bisons, elephants and men are almost in every rock shelters, he said.

The trekking team also discovered the ruins of a seventh century Shivait temple at village Toomba, 15 km north of Akbar Pur (Rohtasgarh), he said claiming that the ruins are spread over anarea of about 1000 sq metres.
