The Rajasthan Police arrested three persons for “glorification” of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi by selling jackets allegedly emblazoned with his name and bearing a resemblance to one that he wore in a popular photograph.

Kotputli-Behror SP Devendra Kumar Bishnoi said that under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Nazim Ali and Circle Officer Rajendra Kumar Burdak, the Kotputli police team, led by Station House Officer Rajesh Kumar Sharma, investigated a tip-off on the matter.

“Based on the information, the team arrested three individuals selling jackets promoting Lawrence Bishnoi’s name at City Plaza in Kotputli town. Thirty-five jackets were confiscated from the arrested individuals,” the SP said.

The siezed jackets bore resemblance to the one worn by Bishnoi in one of his more popular photos. The hooded puffer jackets were black on the outside and orange on the inside. The siezed jackets also had the word “Lawrence” emblazoned in orange on the chest.

The arrested men were identified as Krishna alias Guddu (38), Sanjay Saini (31), and Sureshchand Sharma (50) — all residents of Kotputli.

SP Devendra Kumar Bishnoi said that such acts promote crime in society and mislead the youth. “This effective action against individuals who glorify or promote criminals/gangsters in any form will continue in the future in the Kotputli-Behror district,” he said.

Officials said that there are instructions from Police Headquarters to take strict action against those who like, follow, and promote criminals and gangsters.

Last year, the Maharashtra Police had taken action against e-commerce platforms for selling T-shirts allegedly glorifying Lawrence Bishnoi and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
