
CHANDIGARH, Sept 3: The Engineering Department of the Chandigarh Administration today organised a tree plantation function in Sector 47 here, along the outer Dakshin Marg.
Satya Pal Jain, MP, was the chief guest at the function and it was presided over by the Adviser to the UT Administrator, Jagdish Sagar. Jain inaugurated the function by planting some saplings.
Officials of the Administration and the Municipal Corporation, Senior Deputy Mayor Prem Sagar Jain and councillor of the area, Ranjana Shahi were also present on the occasion.
About 30 saplings were planted adjacent to the road from Sector 31 to 39. Speaking on the occasion, Jain highlighted the importance of trees and their medicinal and ayurvedic significance. Sagar emphasised the need to plant trees in the southern sectors to make the area green and beautiful.
Meanwhile, a tree plantation function was organised by the NSS units of Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36 B in collaboration with State Bank of India, Sector 22. Among those who planted saplings were Sarla Sharma Chairperson of Dev Samaj Institutions, C. L. Narang Director, NSS, Punjab University, N. L. Soni, General Manager, State Bank of India, Sector 22 and the college principal, Satinder Dhillon. Sarla Sharma who was the chief guest, urged them to take the responsibility of nurturing the plants planted today and plant more trees.
Meanwhile, as many as 100 saplings of different varieties were planted on the school premises of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 15, yesterday. D.P.I Schools, D. S. Mangat presided over the function organised by the school in collaboration by Lions Club Chandigarh Royal. An exhibition highlighting importance of trees and preservation of environment was also displayed.
