
VADODARA, MARCH 7: IN keeping with the age-old tradition for which Vadodara is fondly called the sanskarnagari8217;, you can now greet your mornings with the melodious strains of shehnai when you stop during morning walks at the Kamatibag beginning Tuesday. The performers at the Band stand would be none other than the Gaekwadi brothers.
The days of the Raj would be revived by the descendants of the family who were once playing at the Laxmivilas Palace during Sayajirao regime.The programme was formally inaugurated on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Karan Grover of the Heritage Trust said, 8220;the initiative to revive this tradition was taken place even earlier, but it had to be discontinued due to the lack of funds.8221;
He added with the finance arranged the tradition would now be continued. The artists would perform at the Kamatibaug bandstand from 6 am to 7 am daily during summers and 6.30 am to 7.30 am in the winters.
The performance would discontinue during monsoons. Grover added that with the ONGC Oil amp; Natural Gas Commission agreeing to finance the artists for the Tradition of music comes back to cityAtilde;?next five years, it has ensured that the revival of this tradition would not be temporary.
Lt Gen M R Kochchar, Director General of the Corps of EME, New Delhi, was the guest of honour on the occasion while Executive Director of ONGC N Lal was the chief guest. Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria was also present on the occasion.
