Congress MP (Rohtak) Deepender Hooda
Congress MP (Rohtak) Deepender Hooda Tuesday, demanded that Haryana be made the host or co-host state for the proposed 2030 Commonwealth Games (CWG) and 2036 Olympics. Addressing a press conference, here today, Deepender alleged that the “BJP-led state government has remained silent on this issue”.
Accompanied by nearly a dozen Haryana MLAs and four MPs, Hooda said, “Congress leaders would no longer stay quiet if Haryana’s rights continue to be ignored”.
Raising his demand seeking Haryana to host the two international events, Deepender said, “Despite Haryana athletes contributing around 50 per cent of India’s medals in major international sporting events, the Centre chose Gujarat for hosting duties.”
Highlighting disparities in sports funding, he also claimed, “Haryana received the lowest allocation under the Khelo India scheme despite its strong sporting performance.”
Raising financial and developmental concerns, Deepender also said, “Haryana contributes significantly through GST and toll collections but receives disproportionately low central allocations.”
The Rohtak MP also criticised the implementation of MNREGA in Haryana, claiming “very few families received 100 days of work despite large numbers being registered”.
Hooda also raised issues related to water sharing, delayed implementation of the SYL canal verdict, flood relief denial, capital city rights in Chandigarh, stalled infrastructure projects and closure of key institutions. He concluded by stating that Congress would fight for Haryana’s rights both in Parliament and on the streets.
