GUWAHATI, MAY 27: A top ULFA leader was killed in an encounter with security forces in upper Assam's Jorhat district early today, CRPF sources said here.Swadhinata phukan, the assistant publicity coordinator ofthe banned outfit, shot at a joint team of crpf and police at darmoer under Puliabar police station.The security men retaliated killing him on the spot at around 2 am, the sources said.A pistol and some documents were recovered from hisperson. Phukan, who edited the ulfa website 'shadhinata', wasinvolved in several killings and extortions, the sources said.
