To cut down on hoax e-mails being sent from Internet cafes, Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal has issued an order making it compulsory for Internet cafe owners to make customers enter their personal details in their own handwriting in a log book maintained for that purpose.

Police said it has been made mandatory for cafe owners to make customers write down their names and addresses in the log book in their own handwriting and submit authentic identity proofs like ration cards, driving licences, passports or photo credit cards. Dadwal said in the order that cafe owners should immediately inform the police if any person using the cafe is found behaving in a suspicious manner.

The police said the order was issued after it was discovered that criminals and terrorists were using Internet cafe facilities to create panic.
