In a fresh move, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has appointed S. Balakrishnan as TNCC president and E.V.K.S. Elangovan as TNCC working president. This was announced by AICC general-secretary Oscar Fernandes here today.

Balakrishnan’s elevation to the post of TNCC president has enthused the erstwhile TMC leadership which had been insisting for the positions of TNCC presidentship as well as CLP leader, going to erstwhile TMC.

On the other hand, Congress dissidents could not hide their resentment over demotion of Elangovan to working president, despite the fact that they themselves are to blame for this. Though Elangovan has managed to secure the post of ‘working president’ the dissidents — who feel that ‘‘loyalists should have been given more responsbility’’ — in their turn, have got nothing. So much so that prominent Congress dissident Era Anbarasu stated that, ‘‘the loyalists have been ignored. It is painful’’.

AICC secretary incharge of Tamil Nadu Ramesh Chennithala said after the merger that TNCC’s reorganisation was inevitable.
