CHANDIGARH, Oct 2: In an exciting encounter DAV Public School-8 outclassed Manav Mangal-21, 3-2 to lift the title in the under-16 girls group in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Inter-School table tennis tournament at New Public School-18 premises.

Ruchi Gautam set the ball rolling for DAV Public School, scoring 21-14, 21-5 victory over Anchal in the first singles. But Nadia Saini (DAV) lost to Amarpreet 14-21, 9-21 in the second singles.

However, in the doubles, the duo of Ruchi and Nadia were unable to coordinate at the crucial juncture and lost the initial lead to their opponents. The pair of Anchal and Amarpreet registered a 21-19, 21-17 victory over Ruchi and Nadia to gain an upper hand 2-1.

But in the reverse singles Ruchi beat Amarpreet 21-13, 21-19, 21-17, in tough 25-minute encounter to level the score (2-2). And in the decider, Nadia put it across Anchal 21-19, 21-17, to clinch the title.

In a playoff match, Bhavan Vidyalaya-27 beat Sacred Heart School-26, 3-0 win the third place.

In the boys under-16 section, New Public School-18 defeated Bhavan Vidyalaya-27, 3-1 to bag the third position.

Easy win for Sanjay
All the seeded players scored a facile win over their respective rivals to get a berth into the third round of the junior boys singles category on the inaugural day of the Chandigarh state carrom championship at St John’s High School-26 here today.

Sanjay Negi beat Sumit Aithani 25-3, 25-0 while Ramanpreet Singh blanked Sahil Makkar 25-0, 25-0 to sail into the third round of the junior boys singles event.

In the men’s singles, M Tanveer defeated Ashwani Kumar 25-5, 25-0.
