American superstar Tiger Woods picked up $275,000 for his fourth place finish in the season opening PGA Tour event, propelling him over the $40million-mark in career earnings.
Woods finished the Mercedes championship in Kapalua, Hawaii at 15-under 277 to tie South Africa’s Retief Goosen for fourth behind winner Stuart Appleby.
Woods, who celebrated his 28th birthday on December 30, has accumulated $40.05 million in his nine-year career as a professional.
“I love inflation,” Woods said. He has captured 39 tournaments and eight Majors.
By comparison Jack Nicklaus won $5.7 million in his storied career while Arnold Palmer earned $1.86 million.
Woods will not play in this week’s Sony Open in Hawaii. He returns to the Tour on February 9 for the San Diego Buick invitational.
