BJP got a slice of former Karnataka CM Ramakrishna Hegde’s legacy with the entry of his son, Bharat, and daughter, Samata. ‘‘The entry of former Karnataka chief minister S. Bangarappa, Bharat Hegde and his sister will further strengthen the party’s prospects in Karnataka,’’ BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu said. Hegde said he wanted to pursue his late father’s ideology under Vajpayee’s leadership. The chief of the UP unit of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, a constituent of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government, Bahadur Singh Patel, quit the party on Thursday and joined the BJP. Patel said he had decided to part ways with the RLD in protest against its ‘‘narrow-minded policies and programmes’’

Congress will be game for this spin. Former captain of the Indian cricket team Bishen Singh Bedi on Thursday announced he would campaign for the party in the Lok Sabha polls. ‘‘What is the need for joining the party? I am a born Congressman,’’ the legendary left-arm spinner told reporters. Well, the party can surely do a few more like him.
