
When the bus was some 20 km short of Junagadh, it plunged into the flooded river while crossing a bridge
Three persons including a senior forest official died on the spot while 19 others were injured when the State Transport bus they were travelling in fell into river Uben near Junagadh on Sunday night. Seven other persons are reportedly missing. The incident occurred on the Junagadh-Rajkot highway, between Juni-Sankli and Pipalawa village 8212; some 20 km from Junagadh.
According to unconfirmed reports, there were some 29 passengers travelling in the bus. While three have died and 19 seriously injured, nobody knows the whereabouts of the other seven passengers, who have either drowned or perhaps alighted at an earlier destination. The injured, including the bus driver and conductor, have been admitted in the Junagadh Civil Hospital.
The three who have died in the accident have been identified as Devabhai Parmar, Thakorbhai Thaker, and And Ogha Parbat. It is learnt that Parmar was a senior forest official posted at Ahmedabad, while Thaker was a journalist associated with a local daily.
According to Junagadh ST depot official, bus no. GJ 18 V 449 that plies on the Junagadh-Unjha route had left Junagadh at around 11.30 pm on Sunday night. When the bus was some 20 km short of Junagadh, it plunged into the flooded river while crossing a bridge.
