VADODARA, Oct 15: The three-day 39th All-India Oriental Conference concluded at the M S University on Thursday with scholars stressing the need to promote Sanskrit and the need for a Sanskrit university.
Speaking on the occasion general secretary of the conference, D Agnihotri opined, 8220;Sanskrit should be introduced in the school curriculum as it used to be earlier.8221; As the schools had Sanskrit as a part of their curriculum the students were aware of its importance, he said.
Drawing the attention of the organisers toward the flaws of the conference Ratna Basu from Calcutta said, 8220;The conference should have ideally been treated like a platform where the scholars could have shared their knowledge more seriously8221;.
According to Basu, the attitude of the scholars of detaching themselves from English was not right. 8220;Most of the work in Indology and other subjects are carried out in English and other European languages,8221; added Basu.
She also claimed that the research papers put forward by scholars proved that they were basically last moment efforts and most of them just presented what they had prepared earlier. The next Oriental conference would be held at Chennai.
