MUMBAI, December 16: Blind player Vilesh Bhat scored a third successive win in the Senior Division chess tournament organised by the Bombay Chess Association at the Zandu Pharmaceutical Works Canteen, today.

Second seed Suhas Pednekar, fifth seed Subhash Honmurgi, Ganesh Bhilare, Abhijit Bhurke, Deepak Tandel and Santosh Borkar jointly lead the field of 88 players on three points each.

On second spot with 2.5 points each are third seed Saumil Desai, R Durai, Janvion Rodrigues, Pravin Bhatkar, Kiran Pitale and schoolboy Kartik Vishwanathan.

Dhotre knock in vain

Rohan Dhotre8217;s unbeaten 171 failed to save BPM High School from defeat to IES New English High School in the first round of the B Kichadia Khar Gymkhana cricket tournament, today.

Chasing IES8217;s sizeable 281 in 40 overs BPM were bowled out for 257 as Nikhil Borkar 4-48 and Niranjan Sakpal 3-46 shared the spoils.

In other first-round matches, St Joseph8217;s scored 309 on way to a massive 214-run victory over Guru Harkishanlal High School in another match. G Nishit scored 85, Chirag Thakker 54 and Prashant 30 as the winners piled on runs. Guru Harkishanlal crashed to a paltry total as T Suhrad five for 30 had his way.

A rich haul by Ashish seven for 34 failed to stave off defeat as Gokuldham crashed to Jasudben ML Exp High School by 43 runs.

But a fine allround display by Amit Patkar 81 and six for 30 saw St Francis D8217;Assisi register an emphatic 139-run win over St Xavier8217;s Borivli.

IRLA held

IRLA Welfare Centre and Kevni drew goalless in a Rizvi Division IV hockey league match at the St Andrew8217;s High School Ground, here, today.

Young Sports rally

Young sports, who were trailing by a goal at the breather, rallied to hold State Bank of India in the BHA Senior Division League at the Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, today.

Arun Ullal gave SBI an early lead converting a penalty corner in the 10 minute.
