Third seed Krishna Chavan of Maharashtra was the first casualty as he crashed out in the boys under-12 opening round, in the Vazirani All India Talent Series and Maharashtra State Ranking tennis tournament at the Vazirani National Sports Academy, Nerul on Monday.

On an otherwise rewarding day for the seeds in the main draw that got under way, unseeded Ahaan Tagare rallied to a thrilling 7-5 win over Chavan in one of the closest contests of the day.

The other seeds though sailed into the second round as No. 4 Kshitij Gupta and sixth seed Karan Mehta, both of Maharashtra, and No. 7 Saha Kapadia of Andhra Pradesh advanced with easy wins.

Aryan Goveas of Mumbai also enjoyed a rewarding day by moving into the boys8217; under-12 and under-10 second round.

Joining under-10 third seed Goveas were No. 1 Nihar Bhatawdekar, second seed Riyan Pandole and No. 4 Neil Lapalikar.

Among the girls, Nupur Joshi, lucky loser Sakshi Batra and Pune8217;s Sharlee Deshmukh made it to the under-12 second round.
