
• May 12 is the deadline set by Pakistani leader Nawaz Sharif for restoring the deposed judges, though Pakistan People’s Party chairman Asif Ali Zardari has not committed himself to this deadline.
• US President George Bush will visit Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt between May 13— May 18. He will address Israel’s Knesset and is expected to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Sharm al-Shaykh.
• India’s External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will be joining Sergey Lavrov and Yang Jiechi in Yekaterinburg, Russia, for a trilateral Russia-India-China foreign ministers’ meeting between May 14- May 16. Foreign Minister of Brazil Celso Amorim is expected to join, for foreign minister-level talks among the BRIC countries.
• On May 15, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be paying a visit to Bhutan — . the first by an Indian PM in 14 years and the first following the country’s successful democratic transformation.
• On May 15, Palestinians mark Al-Nakbah or Catastrophe Day, the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Israeli state.
• On May 16 and 17, Peru’s capital Lima will host an European Union-Latin America and Caribbean (EU-LAC) summit. Focus will be on poverty, inequality, inclusion and sustainable development, climate change, environment and energy.
