THE WILD CARDS
R Ramkumar TN vs UP
Vs Hyderabad: 31-10-57-6 and 28-7-71-6
That forgotten art 8212; left-arm spin 8212; is seeing a revival of sorts on the domestic circuit too. The 24-year-old left-arm spinner Ramkumar spun a web around the Hyderabad batting. With match haul of 12-128 he sprung into prominence right at the start of the season.
Murtaza Lodghar Bengal vs Railways
Vs Karnataka: 6-28, 5-89
Another left-armer to shine in the first round matches was Lodghar. Though very little was known about him before Bengal8217;s season opener but now things are different. Lodhgar8217;s performance of 11-117 in Bengals8217; 116-runs win got lost in the news that Ganguly also turned up for the match. Lodhgar tormented and teased the Karnataka side as they collapsed on the last day without a fight.
Rakesh Patel Baroda vs Maharashtra
Vs Assam: 25-4-82-4 and 35
His tirelessly show at Guwahati played a huge part in Baroda walking away with two points from this drawn tie. With the bat too Patel chipped in with a useful 35 as his side gained the vital lead. Hoping to catch the eye of selectors again.
Vinayak Mane Mumbai vs MP
Vs Railways: 111
Mane8217;s ton in the season opener saw Mumbai get the all-important first innings lead. The knock should come in handy for Mane as he tries to come out of the wilderness.
THE FRINGE PLAYERS
AJIT AGARKAR Mumbai vs MP
Dropped after Nagpur Test, he troubled Railways in the opener with his five wicket haul. Not included for the Kanpur Test, Agarkar will hope that the home conditions will help him to be in reckoning again.
PARTHIV Gujarat vs Karnataka
Another test for discarded keeper. Passed his first test last week with decent marks, hopefully the trend continues.
CHOPRA Delhi vs Andhra
His first game after the Australian series disastor saw him low on confidence. Maybe at home things will improve.
YUVRAJ SINGH Punjab vs Assam
Batted at No 3 in the first round, indicating that he prefers the middle-order. His brilliant show at Eden proved that Yuvraj is keen to make a fresh bid for a Test spot.
SRIDHARAN SRIRAM TN vs UP
One more chance of rubbing in that he is very much around. Has done that quite a few times over the last one year and has made it as one of the selectors said easy to select him. Now with the middle-order just a bit struggling
