Tamali Dagsupta8217;s uncomplicated yet thought-provoking subject brings out the myriad aspects of feminine introspection
Be it any hour of the day, her mind is always at work thinking of various moods and emotions that can be given a shape on canvas. Little wonder then that Tamali Dasgupta, a Kolkata-based painter, who will be exhibiting in Pune says, 8220;Painting is like a passion for me. The paint brush and art book have been my best friends since childhood.8221; This artist was into landscape painting till recently when she took up figurative art particularly womanhood.
An exhibition of Dasgupta8217;s work has been organised at Omkrishna gallery Anjan Bhattacharya and Sudip Bannerjee are two other well-known painters from Kolkata whose works can be appreciated at the exhibition.
Dasgupta has her own world of paintings. 8220;I consider a painting to be worthy when it creates an interest in human minds. The painting does not need to have some hidden meaning but it should let the audience think,8221; feels Dasgupta. Being a woman of the Internet world, she has a modern approach towards her works. She paints women with modern gadgets like cell phones, headphones and so on in different frames of mind. 8220;I have a free vision.I consider blue a mysterious colour. It has a lot of depth and passion filled in it. I also use a lot of metaphors in my paintings,8221; she shares. Being a Bengali, she considers the different moods that her paintings create as different rasas.
Dasgupta feels that Bengalis and Maharashtrians have a similar approach towards art. 8220;Marathis love theatre and stage plays and art is also much emphasised in Bengal,8221; says the artist who is expecting a good platform for her upcoming exhibition. She feels that her journey has just begun. She will keep on experimenting and believes that creativity should be continued in order to keep herself as well as her audience interested. She uses acrylic paint to transform her imagination into a figure. An active member of International Forum of Art and Culture INFAC, Dasgupta has attended many workshops and her works have been exhibited at many places including Kolkata, Delhi and Hyderabad. Now it8217;s Pune8217;s turn giving art lovers one more reason to smile this festive season.
