Being an Indian, settled abroad, and coming home for the first time to play cricket is bound to attract attention. For Mudhsuden Monty Panesar, India8217;s been as colourful as he could have thought, especially with the kind of spotlight he8217;s been in as the first Sikh cricketer to play for England.
Being in spotlight couldn8217;t have gotten better for Panesar than the Friday outing, when he captured his first Test wicket of Sachin Tendulkar, trapping the master batsman plumb in front of the wicket with a slight degree of turn.
Panesar8217;s bowling was a less spoken issue as compared to his return to India and the lessons he took from Bishan Singh Bedi after arrival. However, in two days of bowling 41 overs, giving 72 runs and claiming two wickets, the left-arm-spinner gave England a lot to be happy about, especially when all the talk had been about missing out on Panesar8217;s senior colleague Ashley Giles.
8216;8216;He should8217;ve been here today, not me,8217;8217; said Matthew Hoggard, the hero of the day, in the media conference hall, praising the 23-year-old8217;s effort.
