8226; Enough is enough. It is doubtful if any law can reform our people8217;s representatives. Despite the heavy perks and privileges enhanced at frequent intervals without deliberation or discussion, most of them use their power to grab wealth by means more foul than fair. It is time the country opts for a better system of governance. Having tried the Westminster model for over fifty years and those elected under the system having systematically failed the Constitution, let there be a new Constituent Assembly to frame a new Constitution providing for sufficient safeguards against the corrupt, immoral, unlettered and criminal who so easily manage to get themselves 8216;8216;elected8217;8217; as representatives of the people.

Unfair to Dada

8226; The decision of the selection committee to drop Sourav Ganguly from the Ahmedabad test squad is not only unfair and biased but also an insult to his contribution to Indian cricket. Though nobody should expect to be included in the team purely on the basis of their past record, Ganguly should have been given a fair chance to prove his ability.

Scapegoat Ganguly

8226; The exclusion of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has shocked his friends as well as cricket lovers. All blame the team selectors and their regionalist approach. Dalmiya8217;s favourite became the scapegoat for the new Sharad Pawar camp.

Cruel joke

8226; The induction of opener Wasim Jaffer in place of Sourav Ganguly was not only a crude joke on cricket lovers also an eye opener to them. Frankly, sports lovers never expected that a shrewd politician like Pawar would not show his power-play in the new arena that he has conquered. But this development is still most unfortunate.

A new connect

8226; Ashok Malik8217;s 8216;Boom by the Brahmaputra8217; IE, December 10, was interesting. Assam8217;s economy is slowly improving, especially since the government8217;s Look East policy was worked out and the first Indo-ASEAN Car Rally was flagged off from Guwahati. There is a new thrust on eco-tourism now. Guwahati, the Gateway of the Northeast, will see trade and business surplus once the border roads are fully operational, connecting the region with Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore.

Games they play

8226; Bangaluru? If the westernised 8220;Bangalore8221; is anathema to Kannadigas, so should be IT, which is a western invention and with which the Garden City is so proud to be associated. Is not name changing hypocritical? Changing names of state capitals is a game politicians often play to arouse the parochial feelings of people and to cover up their shortcomings with the support of local writers and artists who do not stand a chance to rise to national levels, leave alone international. And when is the Karnataka CM, who mooted the latest name change, switching his name to 8216;Dharam Singhu8217; so as to have a Kannada ring to his north Indian name?
