I am 27 years old, unmarried. Last month I underwent a laparoscopic B/L endometriotic cystectomy, right cysts of size 8.8/8.1/6.4 cm and left cyst 7.8/6.9/4.1 cm. After surgery, my ultrasound reports were normal. But I have heard that cysts can come back again. I have also heard that cysts can make one infertile. I am very worried. What precautions should I take?

Dr Anuradha Kapur, senior consultant, gynaecology, Max Healthcare, says: It is correct that cysts can recur over the years. You urgently need to go on oral contraceptive pills or progesterones as continuous therapy to keep the endometriotics under suppression. The medication should be taken under the care of a gynaecologist. It is also correct that this problem can cause infertility, so you should get married and plan a pregnancy soon.
