MUMBAI, Oct 24: 8220;Convent schools are responsible for introducing religion in education. First ask them to stop making the cross sign while saying amen,8221; said Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray as he strongly supported the Saraswati Vandana mooted by Union Minister for Human Resource Development Murli Manohar Joshi.

He was speaking at the inauguration of Janta Raja, a play written and directed by Shiv Shahir Baba Saheb Purandare. The play is to be staged from October 24 to November 2.

The performances are fund-raisers for the Shiv Udyog Sena, a Sena organisation for the benefit of the unemployed youth. Funds raised from this show are to be disbursed to the unemployed.

Thackeray further said that people have no houses, jobs and water even in the 50th year of independence. 8220;It8217;s been 325 years since Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj established the Haindavi Swaraj. What we need today is what saint Eknath said years ago 8212; daar ugad bai daar ugad8216; 8212; to Goddess Ambadevi.8221; Thackeray added, 8220;If thecountry is to be saved, Maharashtra should live on.8221;
