The Iranian Foreign Ministry affirmed Tehran8217;s commitment to the nuclear nonproliferation treaty NPT today and urged a peaceful solution to the dispute over its nuclear programme.

Spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi, the ministry spokesman, issued the latest Iranian declaration a day after the Iranian President threatened unspecified changes to the country8217;s nuclear policy after it was reported to the United Nations General Assembly.

8216;8216;We are still committed to the provisions of the NPT. But we can8217;t accept its use as a political instrument. We will cooperate in the treaty and the safeguards8217; framework,8217;8217; Asefi told a news conference.

Asefi urged the IAEA and the EU to keep open diplomatic channels.
