
Indian paddlers claimed gold in the men8217;s team event after a 3-1 victory over hosts Sri Lanka.
Soumyadeep Roy lost the opening game 6-11, 12-10, 6-11, 5-11 to Thilina Piyadasa, before Achanta Sharath Kamal and Shubhajit Saha took control. Sharath Kamal thrashed Rohan Sirisena 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, while Saha beat Tharindu Samaraweera 11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 11-3. In the last game Sharath beat Piyadasa 11-8, 11-8, 11-7.
Shooters dominate
Amanpreet Singh won the individual free pistol event, while the team, also comprising Bapu Vanzare and Om Prakash, also won. Radhika Barale shot to glory to take the top individual honour in women8217;s 10m air rifle, besides ensuring the team gold along with Navdeep Kaur Dhillon and Raj Kumari.
2-0 over Pak in hockey
India pulled off a 2-0 win over arch-rivals Pakistan. Raghunath drew first blood in the 16th minute by converting a penalty corner while Gurbaj Singh struck in the 61st minute.
Six pugilists reach finals
Six Indian boxers won the semi-finals of their respective events. Akhil Kumar defeated Bangladesh8217;s Mahud 26-2 in the 54 kg bantamweight category, while Harpreet Singh won 35-11 over Sri Lanka8217;s Disanayaka in the 91 kg heavyweight. The bouts of Varghese Johnson, Sanjay Kisan Kolte, Jai Bhagwan and Dinesh Kumar had to be stopped mid-way by the referees.
Clean sweep in rowing
Indian rowers captured three more gold to make a complete sweep of titles. Anil Kumar clinched the lightweight men8217;s singles scull with a timing of 7:24:99 seconds. In double scull, Manu Mathew and Bijender Singh were runaway winners. In light weight coxless fours, the team of Narayan Singh, Haridev Kadyan, Saji Thomas and Manjit Singh won in 6:12:64 secs.
Chinappa claims gold
Joshna Chinappa won the gold in women8217;s singles squash by defeating compatriot Deepika Pallikal, with a convincing 9-6, 9-6, 9-1 victory.
First cycling medal
India today bagged their first medal in cycling as Chaoba Devi won the bronze with the timing of 32 minutes 55.20 seconds in the women8217;s 20km time trial event.
