Abdul Qadir Tamin Mustafa Sayed, nephew of the spiritual head of Bohras, Syedna Burhanuddin Saheb, has gone missing under mysterious circumstances since Thursday.A religious figure himself, Sayed boarded the Ajmer Express from Mumbai at 1.50 pm but did not reach Surat. Qutubbuddin Taiyeb Bhutharani, a relative who had gone to receive him in Surat, has filed a complaint with the Railway Police in Surat.Though an official belonging to the Bohra community in Mumbai said there had been a “misunderstanding” and the 28-year-old Abdul Qadir was safe, Western Railway authorities sent a team to Ajmer and Mumbai to trace the whereabouts of Sayed.The family is not forthcoming about the disappearance. The Dawoodi Bohra community is one of the most influential communities in the city. ‘‘We did contact the family as the matter is very sensitive, but the family is tight-lipped,’’ said V.K. Gupta, Surat Police Commissioner.Sayed, who is the son of the religious head’s sister, had gone to Mumbai to celebrate Id. According to sources, he called a relative from his mobile to arrange to be picked up at the Surat railway station. ‘‘The railway police was informed late on Thursday that he was missing,’’ said Surat railway police authorities.Western Railway SP A.S. Gehlaut said the kidnapping angle was being probed.
