SURAT, Jan 21: The city will host the 17th national conference of the Society for Reproductive Biology and Comparative Endocrinology from January 24 to 26 at Hotel Holiday Inn. The theme of the conference is Biotechnology and Reproductive Health8217;.

Mayor Savitaben Sharda will inaugurate the conference while advisor of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, will be the chief guest. Secretary to Gujarat Science Academy Dr S R Thakore will be the guest of honour. Scientific programmes spread over two days will include four symposia, where invited experts will talk about recent developments in research related to reproduction in human as well as animals. As many as 75 research papers will be presented during eight oral and two poster presentation sessions.

Extensive studies concerning the molecular mechanisms of hormonal actions, use of genetic manipulation and cloning for improving the breed of farm and poultry animals, newer approaches for developing contraceptives will be presented among other papers.

Eminent scientists and researchers from the country and abroad will deliberate upon topics of current interest like Environment and Reproductive Health8217; and Nutrition and Reproductive Health8217;. About 300 delegates, including 80 young research scientists, will attend the conference.

Former director of NDDB Dr K Janakiraman, Dean of Gujarat Agriculture University Dr V M Mehta, Head of Reproductive Endocrinology, Gujarat University, Dr N J Chonoy, Head of Reproductive Endocrinology, A.L.M.P.G. Institute, Madras, Prof P Govindarajulu, Head of Internal Medicine and Immunology Dr U N Das are among those who will take part in the conference.

Surat Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan will inaugurate a special symposium on Clinical Application of Reproductive Technology8217; on January 26 at 11 a.m. The speakers include Dr Indira Hinduja IVF and assisted reproductive procedures, Dr Hrishikesh Pai advanced techniques in female infertility management: laser and clonic and Dr Vijay Kulkarni male infertility in today8217;s scenario and controversies on Viagara.
