Heavy rains hit city
Sharp showers caught surtis unaware on Sunday. While many were stranded because of the heavy showers, a number of low-lying areas were waterlogged. Though it was sunny and bright in the earlier part of the day, the weather turned cloudy and overcast in the afternoon, followed by rains. A total 2.2 mm rainfall was recorded from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.

Sardar Jayanti
Prayer meetings, garlanding of statues, and other programmes marked the 123rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Saturday. Besides Mayor Savita Sharda, Deputy Mayor Snehalata Chauhan and other SMC leaders, representatives of social, cultural organisations, among others also paid their respects.

Kits given
The Dr Hegdewar Smruti Sewa Samiti distributed kits comprising rations, cash and other necessary items to the needy on Sunday. The samiti distributes kits every Sunday after volunteers individually identify needy persons. Among those who distributed the kits were Union Textiles Minister Kashiram Rana and other BJP leaders of the city.

Leader8217;s visit
All-India Jamiat-e-Ulma president Maulana Asad Madani is arriving here on Monday and will proceed to Itarwa near Bardoli later in the afternoon where he will address a gathering, a release stated. The religious leader will leave for Delhi later and the Jamait-e-Ulma city unit has asked all persons to attend the lecture at 2 pm.
