BoB watchman in custody
Bagsingh Amar singh Corawala, a watchman with the Bank of Baroda Athwa Lines branch, was taken into custody by the Athwa Lines police for endangering life and safety of others. He accidentally fired off a round from his service rifle on Monday evening. According to the Umra police, Corawala accidentally fired from his rifle while travelling in a bank jeep near Nagar Road octroi post on Hazira Road. The police said though none of the four travelling in the jeep (GJ 5 FF 480) was injured in the mishap, the bullet hit the vehicle body and ricocheted onto the floor. SMC suspensionn THREE doctors working with the SMC’s health department were suspended for alleged irregularities. The irregularities were detected a few months ago by the civic chief when he ordered a vigilance enquiry. The three — Dr Rekha Kholia, Dr Aruna Patel and Dr M B Patel were earlier transferred to the Maskati hospital — but were suspended after the report was submitted.
Inaugurated
A pipeline supplying drinking water to Hazira was inaugurated on Sunday by Essar Steel Limited Director H S Sethi. The pipeline is part of the company’s community development scheme. The company has spent Rs 5 lakh on the project, which will supply 450 cubic metre water to the Mata-falia and Gundardi villages. Addressing the gathering, sarpanch Kamlaben praised the company’s efforts towards community development.
Doctors’ stir
Resident doctors of the Surat Medical college have decided to go on strike from Wednesday demanding a hike in stipend. Dr Pritu Dhalaria, who is spearheading the agitation, said that the resident doctor had given an ultimatum to the state government to call them for a negotiation within seven days or else resident doctors throughout the state would strike work from Monday. Resident doctors are demanding Rs 12,000 stipend per month. Currently, they are paid Rs 3300 per month.
Villages in GGY
Six villages Punna, Vankal, Issar, Chudel, Parwat, Varjankhan in Mandvi taluka of Surat district will be upgraded under the Gokul Gram Yojna.
