
Mumbai route affected by derailment
Trains plying on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route were affected with passengers left stranded at the city railway station after a Mumbai local train derailed between Vasai and Naigaon, rail sources here stated. All trains coming from Mumbai were running late because of the mishap at Mumbai, the station superintendent said.
Effigy burnt
Congress workers, who have been agitating for more than a fortnight now against the state government, burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel at the Lal Darwaja area of the city on Thursday afternoon. Leaders, in their speeches, criticised the government for failing to check rising crime, prices of essential commodities and the recent attacks on minority communities in the region.
Record rainfall
The Dangs received the highest rainfall at 60 mm in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday. With this the season8217;s total rainfall has gone up to 1099 mm. Meanwhile, all talukas of the Surat district received light rainfall on Thursday. The water level in the Ukai reservoir is 300.30 ft, Kakrapar 157.05 and Amlidam 111.10 ft.
Medical camps
The Forest department of Vyara district, under the World Food programme, will hold free medical camps for tribals, where they will be provided medicines free-of-cost. In a statement, DFO N A Chaudhary said the camps will be organised in August and September at different places in Vyara. Elaborating, he said on August 16, the camp will be held at Mangal Dev, on August 16 at Palawadi, on August 23 in Borda village, on September 6 in Karod village of Uchchal, on September 13 in Berwada village and on September 20 Sadved village. The camps will begin at 10 am.
Nabbed
Jayanti Gandhi, the anaesthetist involved in the Dharmesh Murkude death case, was nabbed late on Thursday evening by the Umra police and later released on bail. Dharmesh, a 12-year-old, died after he was administered an overdose of anaesthsia a couple of months ago, at Dr Dhruv Bhatt8217;s clinic in the city. Bhatt is since absconding.
