Govt likely to give MLAs pensions
Gandhinagar: The state government is considering implementation of an act for giving pension to former MLAs, which was passed by the State Assembly in 1984, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Mehta informed the House on Monday. In written replies to similar questions of Gautambhai Jhala and Shankerji Thakore, the minister said the act was passed by the Assembly on April 4, 1984. In reply to another question of Thakore, the minister said the question of increasing the pay, telephone allowance and other allowances of MLAs was also under consideration of the government.

De-addiction
Surat: A de-addiction camp, organised by the Parivatran Rehabilitation centre, the Shramik Vidyapith and the Ashaktashram hospital was held here at the Ashaktashram hospital. The camp, for ayahs’ and ward boys working at the hospital, provided counselling and medical help. A puppet show on the subject was also held by workers of Parivartan.

Liquor seized
The Detection of Crime Branch, in a raid conducted at Bhatar Road area of the city on Sunday, seized Indian made foreign liquor worth Rs 35,000 from liquor supplier Janak Master. Master was nabbed with 162 bottles of whisky valued at Rs 34,900 and produced before a magistrate on Monday, sources at the DCB said.

Donation
Alana Foundation, Mumbai, has donated Rs 15 lakh for the construction of a physiotherapy college in the city. The grant was given by the trust to city-based Lokhat-Mulla hospital to set up the college. A number of institutions, including the Ashaktashram hospital and other science colleges have extended all possible support for the proposed college.

Contest results
The results of a number of competitions held for girls by the Soni Falia Pragati Mandal were declared on Monday. Cash prizes and other gifts were given to contest winners. The contests, held to mark aluna vrat’, included fancy dress, mehendi, creative writing competition among others.

Tatkal’ scheme
Vadodara: The Vadodara Division of the Western Railways will introduce the Tatkal’ scheme for reservation by the 2010 Shatabdi Express in Chaircar at Ahmedabad from July 15 and by the 2928 Vadodara Express in Sleeper class at Vadodara from July 16. Each passenger will be required to pay Rs 50 over the normal reservation charges. Under the scheme, the reservation for the day of journey will commence at 8 am on the previous day on first come first serve’ basis. Passengers will be required to produce their voters’ card, driving licence, credit card or some official identification to avail of the facility.
