Applications invited for award
Surat: Deputy forest conservator of the social forestry department B D Kuber has invited applications for `Mahavruksha Puraskar’ for the year 1997-98. The applications have to be sent before July 15. Persons who have grown certain types of trees in their compound are entitled to get the prize. Interested should contact the social forestry department’s office located at Surat Fort in Chowk Bazaar.

Fee-hike
District Education Officer Punambhai Patel has stated that the government recognised private schools run by M T Society in Navapura has been allowed to raise monthly fees for students to Rs 155 with effect from June. The amount includes tuition fee, admission fee and term fees.

HMA elections
Dr Akshay Banker has been elected president of the Surat Unit of the Homoeopathic Medical Association of India for 1998-2000. Dr Banker, former principal of Homoeopathic college, Vyara, is presently a professor at Surat Homoeopathic College. Along with Dr Banker, Dr Garidhan Kasiya has been elected vice-president, Dr Nitin Gandhi as secretary and Dr Sunil Gupta as joint secretary.

TQMC workshop
The Total Quality Management Centre will organise a workshop on `Role of Trade Union Leaders in Global Economy’ on July 24. The workshop, claim organisers, is first of its kind to be held in the city. A 20-point agenda has been planned. A national agenda for the trade union leaders is likely to be evolve at the workshop, which, besides leaders of Industry will be attended by trade union leader Ashim Roy of the Hind Majdoor Sabha.

Vadodara: The Vadodara City Recognised Private Primary Teachers’ Association submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel and Education Minister Anandiben Patel demanding pay scales at par with their counterparts in government-run schools, bonus, leave travel concession and maternity leave for woman teachers.The election for new office-bearers would be held at the Sardar Bhawan on July 25.
