Navsari civic VP loses trust vote
A no-confidence motion was passed by a two-third majority against the vice-president of Navsari Nagarpalika Dahyabhai Digaswala, giving yet another jolt to the Congress. In the general board meeting held on a directive from the district collector, 29 Bharatiya Janata Party members voted against Digaswala. In the 42-member body, BJP holds 29 seats while the rest belong to the Congress. However, only eight of the 13 Congress members were present in the meeting giving rise to wide speculations.

Diesel unit closed
The Weights and Measures department sealed a diesel unit of Saibaba Petroleum located on the Magdalla road when it was found that consumers were supplied 48 ml fuel less on every litre. A case was registered against the owner and legal proceedings initiated against him. The department had booked as many as 67 traders/hawkers for violating Weights and Measures Act and Package Commodities Rules in June. An amount of Rs 14,000 was recovered from them in fines. The team initiated legal proceedings against five petrol pumps on finding that petrol/diesel was supplied less during the last month.

SMC closed
All offices of Surat Municipal Corporation, schools run by Nagar Prathamik Shikshan Samiti, South Gujarat University and its affiliated colleges will be closed on Wednesday for Id-e-Milad. The holiday was announced earlier on Tuesday. However, all departments providing emergency services of the civic body like sanitation, streetlight, water, gutter, road, fire brigade and Octroi will remain open. SGU registrar V B Yadav said in a statement interviews for the Master of Computer Application and the Science faculty meeting will be held as per schedule on Wednesday.

Vanmohatsav
The district administration is all geared to celebrate the vanmohatsav, beginning July 15. The forest department will deploy mobile vehicles for the purpose. Those interested can also order saplings, which will be provided within hours to them, according to Deputy forest conservator B D Kuber. Saplings of medicinal plants Neelgiri, Bamboo, Neem, and Tulsi will be available at Rs 1 and other plants at 50 paise each. A suggestion book will be also be put at every mobile vehicle.

Forms
All city schools have been directed to send students’ application forms, for the forthcoming supplementary HSC examination to be conducted in October, by July 9 to the district education officer.

Engg admissions
Official sources in the Gujarat Technical Education Board have clarified that the engineering and polytechnic merit list will take some more time to get finalised due to the delay in re-checking of HSC and SSC results. Clearing the confusion about engineering admissions, sources in the Board said the interviews for admissions to engineering colleges outside Gujarat will be conducted on July 14 at 11 a.m. and not on Wednesday. And this information concerns only those students who have applied for admissions outside state colleges having a quota for Gujarat.

New hospital
Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana inaugurated the new building of Nirmal Children’s Hospital and Research Centre run by Nirmal Choraria near Kadiwala School on Ring Road. The 110-bed hospital is equipped with sophisticated equipment.
