Compensation
The district administration gave wood worth Rs 23 lakh to 63 tribal families of Karod village in the district, whose huts were gutted in a massive fire in March. Forest Minister Kanjibhai Patel and Forest Conservator Suresh Chand Pant had visited the village after the incident and assured assistance. The compensation was given by Gujarat Sugar Industry Co-operative vice-president Mansinh Patel. Bardoli MLA Rajanikant Ranwadi and Uchchal MLA Paresh Vasava were also present on the occasion.

Musical evening
The Surat Municipal Corporation SMC will organise a Musical Evening Competition8217; at the end of this month. Municipal officers, employees and journalists of city newspapers are eligible to take part in the competition. Each participant will be given 10 minutes time during which he/she can sing classical, folk, western, patriotic or devotional songs or perform mimicry, mono acting or recite poetry. Three prizes carrying Rs 501, Rs 251 and Rs 151 will be given to winners.

Visit to Delhi
State Forest and Environment Minister Kanjibhai Patel is scheduled to meet the union environment minister in New Delhi on May 18 where he will take up various forest and environment-related issues with the union minister. Patel will apprise the minister of various problems faced in the forest areas. Patel said that the government was committed to providing road and water facilities in the 9th five year plan in tribal areas.

Inaugurated
State Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala inaugurated the Kosamba Mercantile Co-operative bank in Mangrol taluka. Speaking on the occasion, he asked the bank employees to adopt 8220;consumer and business friendly approach.8221; He apprised the gathering that the bank was set up in 1971 and started operating on commercial basis in 1976. 8220;The bank has progressed in the last 22 years and today has emerged as a leading bank,8221; the finance minister said.

Phone bills
According to a release issued by the senior superintendent of post offices Surat division on Sunday, telephone subscribers paying their bills at the Mahidharpura Head Post Office and the Telephone Office at Meghani Tower on Cinema Road and who have an additional option of paying the bills at Bhagal, Begumpura and Zampa Bazaar post offices will be allowed to pay their bills only at the HPO and the Telephone office beginning July 1. The change has been effected to ease the pressure of telephone bills in areas including Khatodara, Rustompura, Rampura and Vasta Devdi post offices.

CASE seminar
Vadodara: A national Seminar on Innovative Practices in Pupil Evaluation8217; will be held at the Centre of Advanced Study in Education, Faculty of Education and Psychology, M S University, from May 11 to 13. The Centre of Advanced Study in Education will be the host organiser under the aegis of DPEP, Department of Education, MHRD, Government of India through Research, Evaluation and Study Unit of Educational Consultant India Limited Ed CIL. The main objective of the seminar is to develop a framework for evaluation at the Primary Level, particularly to guide the DPEP states with respect to Pupil Evaluation.
