Sharp spells of rain in city and region
Sharp spells of rain continued in the city and region for the second consecutive day on Thursday. While Uchhal taluka received the highest rainfall of the district 84 mm in the past 24 hours, all other talukas received moderate rainfall, the met office said. Meanwhile, the collectorate here said Surat district was likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Fishermen have been directed not to go out into the sea.

Venue change
The office of the DEO stated on Thursday that the venue of Non-Sachivalaya Clerical Competitive Examination has been changed. The examination, which was to be held at Salabatpura High School, Gopipura, for candidates with with examination numbers 60701 to 61060, will now be held at the New Model High School, behind Jivan Jyot Theatre, Bhathena II, Udhna. Candidates with examination numbers 59951 to 60400, who were supposed to appear at M and M C Dhamanwala Girls High School, Salabatpura, will now have to appear at P H Bachkaniwala Secondary School, Kharwarnagar. Both exams are to be held on August 8, the release added.

Heavy vehicles
An official statement issued here has banned the movement of heavy vehicles on the Olpad-Kadrama Road on August 8. Additional District Magistrate R K Mankadia said that the ban had been issued in view of the Pran Pratishthaan ceremony at Vruksh Mandir, Kadrama, on Saturday. A large number of people are expected to attend the ceremony.

Office moves
The office of the Surat District Backward Classes Welfare Officer has been shifted to the sixth floor of C8217; block in Bahumali, an official statement issued here said. The office was earlier located at A block.

Plea rejected
The additional sessions court on Wednesday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of five students allegedly involved in the bogus certificate scandal, which rocked M S University, recently.
