Lok Sabha election meeting held
District authorities today held a meeting to discuss preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections for two constituencies. The meeting for Surat and Mandvi Lok Sabha constituencies were chaired by collector Sangeeta Singh. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the BJP and the Congress. Former MP Chhitu Gamit, Surat city Congress president Pratap Kantharia, BJP MLAs Dheerubhai Gajera and Dhansukh Patel, Gujarat Municipal Finance board chairman Fakir Chauhan, BJP city general secretary Kanubhai Joshi were prominent among those who attended the meeting.

More rains
Umarpad taluka of Surat district recorded 81 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, the highest in the district, whereas Mangrol taluka recorded lowest rainfall 6 mm. Valod taluka recorded second 70 mm. Palsana 64 mm, Vyara 42 mm, Bardoli 22, Mahuva 26 mm, Songadh 17 mm, Choryasi 15 mm, Uchhal, Nizar and Olpad recorded 11 mm each.

Log hut telecast
Ahmedabad Doordarshan will telecast Saputara8217;s famous wooden log-huts on July 28 at 7.15 pm. The directorate of information sponsored Jharukho8217; serial8217;s next Tuesday8217;s episode will show the unique architecture of the log huts. The log-huts have been built by the forest departments. The episode is directed by deputy director Cecil Christi. Videography is by Chandra Kant Gohil.

Cong meeting
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee members Ishwarbhai Chavda and Naresh Raval, who have been appointed as observers for the Surat city Lok Sabha seat of the party, will remain present at the Congress office on Monday to hear the choices of workers and prospective candidates. A release issued by city Congress chief Pratapsinh Kantharia stated that the observers will then forward their opinion to the GPCC to finalise a city LS seat candidate for the forthcoming general elections.
