
Four die in road mishaps
Four people died and one was seriously injured in separate road accidents on district roads in the past 24 hours, the district rural police said. Three of the deceased have been identified as Nathu Lala Dhimar, Shankar Chhagan Rathod and Firoze Nasir, while the injured is one Shabbir Ahmed. The fourth deceased is a truck-cleaner. In three cases, vehicles overturned due to reckless driving, while in a fourth case, a person sleeping on the pavement was run over by a truck.
Last rites
The last rites of noted freedom fighter Chimanbhai Harjibhai Rana were performed in the presence of a number of city leaders on Thursday. Rana died on Wednesday afternoon at the age of 88. He had worked closely with Gandhi, Nehru, Sardar Patel and other national leaders.
Snake bite
Five-year-old Paru Devsingh Chaudhary of Bartal village, Palsana, died after being bit by a snake in a village ashramshala, before she could be admitted to hospital, the police said.
Song contest
Sanskar Bharati is holding a national-level competition of songs promoting swadharma own religion, swadesh, swavlamban self-reliance and swabhasha own language. The songs will have to be in Hindi and of three paragraphs each. There will be 10 prizes of Rs 1,000 each.
