Congmen burn effigies
The Congress activists burned effigies of Sharad Pawar, Tariq Anwar and P A Sangma near Makkai Pool on Wednesday in protest against their stand on AICC president Sonia Gandhi8217;s nationality and for doubting her ability to lead the country. Earlier, they held a day-long dharna to express their solidarity with Sonia Gandhi, and to force her to withdraw her resignation. In a letter to her, they said the country and the Congress party needed her leadership. The letter demanded immediate expulsion from the Congress party of the three rebel leaders for their power hungry politics.

DemonstrationThe Surat branch of Socialist Unity Centre of India held a demonstration on Wednesday evening near Mahatma Gandhi8217;s statue near Gandhibaug to protest against the recent attack by NATO on the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade. Carrying placards and shouting slogans denouncing the NATO air strikes, SUCI activists condemned the imperial designs of the USA.

Cong Yatra
Surat District Congress Committee8217;s Jansampark Abhiyan Yatra will kick off from Songadh on May 25. Public meetings will be held at Songadh, Vyara, Bajipura, Valod, Boria, Mahuva, Karchelia and Bardoli on May 25 followed by a series of meetings in Kadod, Mandvi, Devgadh, Zankhvav, Vankal, Mangrol, Tadkeshwar, Kim, Kamrej and Palsana on May 26 to highlight what it calls failures of the Bharatiya Janta Party government on all fronts.

Camp held
More than 250 people attended a de-addiction camp organised by the Giants Group of Rander in slums in and around Adajan bus depot, a release issued here said. The camp was co-ordinated by well-known physicians of the city, who counselled people on the evils of liquor consumption.
