Two-day eye camp held
The Krishak Bharati Co-operative Limited organised a two-day eye camp for tribals at Vansda. As many as 43 cataract patients were operated upon and 186 treated at the two-day camp which concluded on January 17. Thirty five patients were referred to the Navsari Rotary Eye hospital for further treatment. While free spectacles were given to the needy, the camp was inaugurated by Tribal Development Minister Mangubhai Patel.

Talk on industry
National president of the Confederation of Indian Industry Rajesh V Shah will speak on Competitiveness of Gujarat Industry an Assessment amp; Issues for National Agenda8217; on January 23. The talk, organised by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will be held at 4 pm at the Chamber8217;s hall, according to SGCCI president Rajendra Chokhawala.

Streetlights
City Congress Committee West Zone vice-president Manharlal Patiawala has demanded that the SMC put up streetlights in Adarshnagar society. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he said streetlights were needed because there were many schools, hospitals and other institutions in the area. He claimed lack of streetlights had resulted in accidents and house-breaking cases in Narmad Nagar and Jivan Vikas Societies. Patiawala has urged the authorities concerned to take appropriate steps.

Exhibition
Noted city painter Jagdeep Smart will hold an exhibition of his paintings from January 22 to 29 at Hermit Gallery in Ahmedabad.

LIC scheme
Life Insurance Corporation of India LIC launched a short-term insurance scheme Beema Nivesh8217; on Makarsankranti January 14. Divisional Manager Surat S Sarkar in a statement said the scheme would provide attractive insurance benefits to consumers. While the consumer will be require to pay premium only once, the scheme has been slotted in two parts 8212; for five years and 10 years.
