
Govinda to perform in city today
Bollywood star Govinda will entertain Surtis by dancing with them to the tunes of Hindi chartbusters to celebrate the new year bash at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium.Owners of Generation Next Computers Ashish Gupta, who is organising the programme to popularise his computer vending firm, said the noted star would perform from 9 pm on Thursday. He said the entire stadium would turn into a huge discotheque to welcome the new year. Son of noted comedian Johnny Walker and host of a popular countdown show Nasir, will compere the programme. Famous DJ from Mumbai Alex is another attraction of the show.
Fine recovered
The RTO collected fine worth Rs 2.12 lakh from 111 vehicles for overloading during a month-long drive conducted in November. While autorickshaws were fined for running without metre and PUC certificate, RTO K M Patel said during a joint checking 205 vehicles were fined for not having permit.
Car rally in Jan
Police Commissioner Kuldip Sharma will flag off the Round Table Car rally for the blind. Organised jointly by the Surat Round Table-135 and the Andhjam Shikshan Mandal, the rally will be held on January 3. While Abhijeet Bose, Sales Manager Auto, Gulf Oil India Limited, will be the guest of honour, mayor Savita Sharda will give away prizes to winners.
MSU prof elected
Vadodara: Prof N Subrahmanyam of the Department of Chemical Engineering, M S University, was elected as the national president of the Indian Institute for Chemical Engineers IIChE for 1999 at the Chemical Engineering Congress held recently at Vishakhapatnam.
