
Recruitment drive for army announced
An eight-day army recruitment drive, to be held next month in Junagadh district at the police training college parade ground, will begin on October 11. A written test will be conducted on October 31 at Jamnagar. General candidates willing to join the army should have passed the SSC. The candidate8217;s age should from 16 to 21. Those seeking clerical and technical jobs will be given two years relaxation.
Heavy rains
The met department has forecast heavy rainfall in some parts of Surat district in the next 24 hours. All Mamlatdars and Taluka Development Officers have been asked to keep in touch with the district flood control room.
Seminar
The District industries Centre has organised a seminar on New industrial policy and schemes for educated unemployed youth8217;. The seminar, to be held on September 23 at Mahuwa taluka panchayat office, will begin at noon.
Skin camp
Altogether 159 skin disease patients were given free treatment at a medical camp organised on Sunday by Reliance ladies club at Bhatlai Primary school in Hazira. Three skin specialists, Dr Girish Shah, Dr Bhupendra Tomar and Dr Rajesh Jain, rendered their services. The patients, from eight villages in the Hazira area, were benefited. Reliance Industries Ltd President H S Kohli told patients that the company will continue to hold such camps to give free treatment to people living in the Hariza area.
Dharna
Vadodara: People from the Narmada Valley on Wednesday began a dharna in Dhadgaon, Maharashtra, in protest against the arrest of Narmada Bachao Andolan NBA leader Medha Patkar and 149 others. They were arrested on Tuesday and taken to Dhadgaon. An NBA spokesman said that the villagers were of the view that what is called for is a dialogue with the Government and not the satyagrahis8217; arrest.
Felicitation
The Retired Officers Forum would organise a felicitation ceremony on September 26 to present merit certificate and mementos to the 1999 SSC Toppers. According to a press release, the function would be held at Vasvik Hall, Institution of Engineers, Race Course Road, and the welcome address would be delivered by Dr D B Bhandari. The key note address would be delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Home Science, Subhadra Seshdari, and the chief guest would be Maharaja Ranjitsinh Gaekwad.
Committee meet
The Consultative Committee meeting of All India Radio, Vadodara, will be held in Makarpura on September 22 at 11.30 a.m. The meeting is held to chalk out programmes for the next three months.

1,236 TRIBALS have been given cash assistance of over Rs 22 lakhs under the family-oriented programme by the Chhotaudepur Tribal Sub-Plan office. The assistance is given to enable tribals to set up small businesses. Tribals of Chhotaudepur region have been benefited.
