
City Cong members meet new CP
The City unit of the Congress on Thursday called on Police Commissioner Kuldip Sharma, after he assumed charges. Led by State Congress vice-president Kadir Pirzada and Councillor Bhupendra Solanki, they submitted a memorandum to Sharma apprising him of the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. The Congress leaders appealed to Sharma to check the activities of Bajrang Dal, who, according to them, were working as a parallel police force in the district.
Adjourned
The Standing committee on Thursday adjourned its weekly meeting after paying tribute to Nita Satbhaya. The meeting was adjourned to December 28 after observing a two-minutes silence. Standing Committee chairman Ajay Choksi read out a resolution describing Satbhaya as a honest and fearless councillor and condoled her killing.
Desai8217;s appeal
Former mayor Ajit Desai has appealed to all councillors to donate their December8217;s salary and allowance to Nita Satbhaya8217;s family members. Meanwhile, the standing committee has decided to give Satbhaya8217;s husband Vipin Chandra employment in the SMC. Chandra, a B.Com graduate, is presently working with a co-operative where he is said to be getting less than Rs 1800 per month. Standing Committee chairman Ajay Choksi said the BJP would deposit a certain amount in the bank to ensure that the councillor8217;s two children do not suffer because of financial constraints.
Workshop today
Gujarat State legal services authority and Surat district Legal Aid will organise a legal workshop on Friday. The workshop, 550th in the series, will be held at Surat Diamond Association Hall, Varachcha Road at 3 pm. Chairman of the MRTP Commission, New Delhi, Justice A N Divecha will be the chief guest of the function.
