Well we didn8217;t think of the film8217;s name, they did. And even for sex comedies involving teenagers about to end high school, Superbad has little to recommend it. The story never strays from the sex, booze and party route, with boys who have no friends and girls who don8217;t lack for any trying to make the most of the time they have before college.
So there is the nerd, nice guy and the overweight motor-mouth trying their lucks with girls; a party that they have to attend; and claims that they have to live up to. Plus, there is inordinately foul language even for such a film. Superbad could be autobiographical as the leads are named after the two writers of the film, but it would be more sad than hilarious if this were actually real.
The saving grace is Michael Cera, who brings a gravitas and sensitivity to his role that gives some credit to the Generation Next. Put in the most incredulous of situations, he manages to survive.
