The annual general body meeting of the Delhi Soccer Association DSA today turned out to be a damp squib.
Nothing of the bitter rivalries on view before the election was on view today and local Congress strongman Subhash Chopra was unanimously elected the president of the DSA. Chopra has also been authorised to pick his team to run the affairs next four years.
The flurry of allegations that had become the order of the day in the run up to the quadrennial elections had subsided after AIFF supremo Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi8217;s intervention. 8220;Delhi is top priority for the AIFF. It8217;s a part of Asian Football Confederation8217;s 8216;Vision India8217; programme. We don8217;t want any sort of factionalism to derail the Delhi project and fortunately both the groups, led by Subhash Chopra and Umesh Sood, sorted out their differences today,8221; said C R Viswanathan, the AIFF vice-president and observer for the elections.
Sood, who had been quite critical of the incumbent regime at DSA, said factional fights were doing no good to Delhi football so he withdrew keeping the greater common interest in mind.
8220;The fight at DSA was going a bit too far and it was not sending right signals to the AFC and FIFA, who have a stake in Delhi now. I had a word with Mr Dasmunsi and we decided that development of football was more important than individuals,8221; said Sood.
The DSA will announce its new 21-member executive committee by the end of the week.
