
VADODARA, July 30: Student leaders of the Commerce faculty, M S University ransacked Pro Vice-Chancellor Deepak Kumar De8217;s cabin and damaged classroom benches on Thursday. Forcing the faculty to be closed on the fifth consecutive day, the agitating students first broke desks and benches before venting their ire on the PVC8217;s cabin. They also prevented M Com previous classes from being conducted.
The students are demanding admission to students with less than 46 per cent, the cut-off for FYBCom.
Faculty Dean B S Patel and other staff members, seeing no other way out, locked up the faculty and squatted outside to show their anger against the authorities8217; failure to prevent attacks on the faculty staff. Patel, has in fact, decided to keep the faculty closed, till provided with meaningful8217; security.
Meanwhile, Union General Secretary Prakash Verma said though the students have been putting forward their demands from the past few days, the authorities had failed to take notice and so they were compelled to resort to violence. He regretted that despite that, the authorities had turned a deaf ear to their demands.
Interestingly, the police deployed to prevent trouble on the campus, remained a mute witness to the hooliganism by the student leaders. Surprisingly, the university authorities did not ask them to curb it either.
While Vice-Chancellor Padma Ramchandran could not be contacted as she was out of station on leave, the PVC told Express Newsline, 8220;Till 6.30 p.m. on Thursday the faculty dean had not informed me of any of the happenings of the day.8221; He added that he could not take any action if the police in the faculty did not take any initiative.
