Students protest doc8217;s negligence8217;

Her friends called up the university health centre. However, the medical officer-in-charge, Dr. D. Dhawan reportedly expressed his inability to attend to a patient in the girls hostel, unless he was asked by the hostel warden or the Dean Student Welfare DSW. Since the patient was a girl, he stated that the warden should also be present, while he examined her.

While Randhawa claimed that the girls waited for an-hour-and a-half before rushing the girl to the PGI, Dr Dhawan contested the claim, saying that after receiving the call, the ambulance was sent to the hostel to fetch the girl, but by that time the girl had been taken to the PGI. He also questioned as to why no hostel official contacted him about the girl8217;s illness.

The traffic blockade caused harassment to passersby throughout the day. Later, a meeting of the students, medical officers and the Dean was held at the girls hostel where the authorities expressed regret over the incident. Students were assured that two nurses would also be provided for the university hostels.
