PUNE, November 21: Upset by the lack of response from the cattle owners on the issue of the infrastructure to be developed at the proposed cattle sheds at Ghorpuri, the Pune Cantonment Board PCB has decided to initiate criminal proceedings against them.
A resolution to this effect was passed at the general meeting here yesterday. The board had earlier passed a resolution mooting an informal discussion with the members of the Bharatiya Lingayat Gawali Samaj Vikas Pratisthan in order to consider their suggestions.
In informal meeting held on August 16 with BS Bidkar, the secretary of the Gawali Samaj was offered details about the project and were asked to submit their suggestions by August 25. The board also granted an extension to the cattle owners until October 10 on the issue, however, there seemed to be little response from them.
Both the president and and the cantonment executive officer made it clear that the board would no longer be held responsible for cleaning up the sheds. Instead they suggested that the vehicles would sent everyday following which the owners could dump the garbage. This was opposed by ward member Sanjeev Gautam Mahajan who argued that this was not correct since the board employees were paid for their jobs, The president Brig Mathew Mammen explained that it was the responsibility of the owners to ensure cleanliness in the cattlesheds. The cantonment board has mooted plans for a modern cattleshed at Ghorpuri consisting of feeders in the centre, apart from drainage systems to take care of hygiene and sanitation. It would also provide for an overhead tank, fodder room, the vet8217;s room and servants quarters.
