Bomb hurled at Andhra Minister’s home, 4 hurt

GUNTUR: Altogether four persons were injured when two bombs were hurled at the residence-cum-hospital of Andhra Pradesh Minister for Panchayat Raj, Dr Kodela Siva Prasada Rao at Narasaraopet, about 50 km from here, on Saturday night.

According to police, two rooms in the hospital were damaged in the explosion. There were three explosions at around 1130 hrs, Narasaraopet police told UNI over the telephone.

However, unofficial sources said one person was killed and three others sustained serious injuries in the explosion.The Minister was away on his election campaign when the incident occurred. Dr Rao of the Telugu Desam Party is seeking re-election to the State Assembly from Narasaraopet constituency.

The Minister’s house has been cordoned off and the scene of offence preserved for examination by forensic experts, a Guntur report said. Police said Naxalites could have hurled the bombs as the Minister had made a statement againstthem.

Palace-on-Wheels gets a facelift

NEW DELHI: Palace-on-Wheels, the country’s major tourist attraction, is all set to roll this autumn with a beauty parlour and a gymnasium.The luxurious train has been redecorated to suit the tastes of tourists, a majority of them foreigners, by a city-based interior design agency which was appointed as chief design consultant.

The Rajasthan Tourist Development Corporation, which operates the train, has used the summer months to carry out the redesigning task. The train runs from September to March. The new attractions of the train, known for focussing on comfort and ethnic ambience, include among other things a beauty parlour and a health club or gym, a spokesperson of the firm told PTI.

PUNE: The fasting University of Pune engineering students pressing for immediate implementation of the carry-over rule, withdrew their agitation late Saturday evening after an impromptu meeting with Pro-Vice-chancellor N JSonawane.

Meanwhile, two of the fasting students were shifted to the Sassoon Hospital, Chatushrungi police said. Students’ representative Aditya Razdan told mediapersons Sonawane assured the delegation their demands would be tabled during the academic council meet on September 6. Earlier, the UoP authorities had insisted a decision over the carry-over rules be announced after the academic council meet.
