
Policemen suspended for custody death
LUCKNOW: Eleven policemen, including a sub-inspector, absconding after the custody death of a person at Cantt outpost in Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, have been suspended, a home department spokesman said.
The policemen fled the post under Sadar Bazar police station after discovering the death of the undertrial Pir Shah, a rickshaw puller, in their custody. Following a complaint by the residents of the area a police party led by a circle officer reached the post and recovered the body. A special team has been constituted to nab the absconding policemen.
Train derailment injures nine
CHENNAI: Nine passengers on board the Rameswaram Passenger were injured when five bogies of the train went off the rails near Thirumayam in Pudukottai district of T N late Wednesday night, Southern Railway sources said. The cause of the derailment of the Tiruchirappalli-bound train from Chennai was not known but long distance trains were delayed.
Womanstripped, beaten
LUCKNOW: A woman was stripped and badly beaten by some anti-social elements in Bhasanda village of Ambedkarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Wenesday. A spokesman for the State police headquarters here said that one of the accused named in the FIR had been arrested and a hunt has been launched for the others.
Veteran freedom fighter dead
MOGA: Veteran freedom fighter and member of the Indian National Army INA Amar Singh died at his native town Malout in Muktsar district after a brief illness on Wednesday, family sources said. He was 85. Singh was cremated with full state honours at Malout for which a large number of freedom fighters, citizens and officials from all over the district were present. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has condoled Singh8217;s death.
