Puzzle on protein structure solved

NEW DELHI: A daunting puzzle on protein structure that kept scientists guessing has been cracked by a three-women team that includes two young NRIs, within three years of being proposed. The solution has wider implications in understanding the structure and function of proteins, says Seema Dalal, one of the team members from Yale University, USA.

Woman gives birth on train

CHENNAI: A 25-year-old woman passenger gave birth to a baby in a suburban train here on Tuesday. Shabana Begum from Avadi, was proceeding to the Moore Market station to visit a relative whenshe went into labour. The mother and child were later admitted to the Government Maternity Hospital at Egmore.

UP flood situation grim

VARANASI: The flood situation in Varanasi, Ballia and Ghazipur districts of Uttar Pradesh was grim as the Ganga was maintaining its rising trend and flowing 1.53 metre above its danger marks in these districts. The swollen river has affected thousands of villages situated along its course and damaged standing paddy crops. About a dozen low-lying localities in Varanasi were flooded as the river crossed its danger mark hereon Tuesday night.
