Broach reels under flood fury

GANDHINAGAR: Several villages in Broach district of Gujarat continued to reel under flood fury even as there was a marginal increase in the level of the Narmada at different places in the State today. At present, Narmada was flowing above the danger level at 9.85 metres at the Golden Bridge, 30.95 metres at Garudeshwar and 98.65 metres at Sardar Sarovar dam.

Woman gives birth on train

CHENNAI: A 25-year-old woman passenger gave birth to a baby in a suburban train here on Tuesday. Shabana Begum from Avadi, was proceeding to the Moore Market station to visit a relative whenshe went into labour. The mother and child were later admitted to the Government Maternity Hospital at Egmore.

UP flood situation grim

VARANASI: The flood situation in Varanasi, Ballia and Ghazipur districts of Uttar Pradesh was grim as the Ganga was maintaining its rising trend and flowing 1.53 metre above its danger marks in these districts. The swollen river has affected thousands of villages situated along its course and damaged standing paddy crops. About a dozen low-lying localities in Varanasi were flooded as the river crossed its danger mark hereon Tuesday night.
