CHANDIGARH, March 3: World8217;s Children8217;s Alliance for Protection of the Environment Day was celebrated at Government High School, Sector 7 here today.

To spread the message quot;Save habitatquot; among public, about 250 children marched through the streets carrying banners advocating stopping use of plastic bags and cautioning against parthenium.

S.K. Sharma, president of Environment Society of India, in his inaugural address, advised children to put fallen leaves in pits to make manure, instead of burning them. He also explained the techniques of vermiculture composting, which he said, should be practised in all the schools. He announced a grant of Rs 5,000 for the school. Principal Urmil Dogra launched a nature club consisting of pupils as well as teachers. About 15 saplings were planted by the pupils as a part of spring tree plantation campaign in the school.
